TED Hub, an Entrepreneurial and Innovation space in Tarkwa hosted its maiden Startup Summit on January 13th, 2022, under the theme “Mobile Applications for Sustainable Business Development and Job Creation in Tarkwa”.

The Startup Summit is an event that commemorates the Six weeks intensive Mobile App development training by TED Hub under the Pathway to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) program in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab.

The program which is funded by the Mastercard Foundation, Young Africa Works, World Bank, and Ministry of Communications seeks to create sustainable employment opportunities for young people in Ghana through technology.

The Co-founder and CEO Simon Asare welcomed all participants and guests present. He gave the overview of the PaSE program whilst touching on the numerous opportunities been created for young people across the country. He assures participants that TED Hub Ghana is poised to change the narrative and the status-quo and equip young people with all relevant skills and mentorship they need to establish their businesses in Tech.

The Project Lead Mr. Ali Suleiman added its free Business Consultation services (StartupBAS) to Startups and SME’s in the community every Tuesday and Thursday. This he believes will help develop sustainable businesses and create more employment opportunities for young people in Tarkwa.

Mr. Eugene Abaidoo, a developer and lead trainer at uComputing, delivered the keynote address. He said the summit will empower the youth with ICT knowledge and also make a living with the skills gain.

He also spoke on the importance and relevance of Mobile applications in our ecosystem and the potential it has to create jobs.

A team of three startups with three members each presented their project to a jury of judges for feedback and criticism.

1. Team Ace: presented on an app that will ease the pressure on people wanting to rent a house or an apartment. Their app will let landlords upload their house or apartment for tanent to see and interact with them.

2. Team Focus: presented an app that will provide an avenue for farmers to connect with merchants or buyers. And also providing education on best farming practices.

3. Team Solid Widgets presented on their innovation, ReproMedic, a digital health care solution app that will use integrated technologies to remove barriers in delivering smooth and just-in-time health care to young people

At the end of the summit, Team Ace emerges as the winner with Team Solid Widgets and Team focus placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
